Fla. District to Shut Money-Losing Central Kitchen

The Okaloosa (FL) County School Board has voted to close the district's central kitchen at the end of the year, reports the Northwest Florida Daily News. Once the facility, which had been losing money since its opening 10 years ago, shuts its doors on December 31, individual schools will be completely responsible for their own food production, and for satelliting to those sites with no kitchens of their own. This will not be a major change as the central kitchen currently produces only about 16 percent of the district’s meals because most schools find onsite production more cost-effective. ...
